Mobile Poppy

When the RSA first established Poppy Day in the 1920s, it took ships months to deliver the French hand-made poppies to New Zealand.

In fact, the late supply for the first Poppy Day is why we hold it in association with Anzac Day and not in November as is the case in Australia, Canada, the UK and USA.

Today, New Zealanders can make a $3 donation instantly by texting “POPPY” to 2447. They can also make a donation online at www.rsa.org.nz/support/poppy-appeal with the option to download a poppy or post it to your Facebook page.

The aim of the mobile campaign is to reach new supporters and supplement the street collection. The mobile initiative is still relatively new and the funds generated small but when the online Poppy Appeal grows significantly it is envisaged to make some arrangements to support local welfare services.
